Guidelines
Note the following guidelines:
1. Sorted in alphabetical order, excluding "Republic of", "Autonomous Community of" and other prefixes, and under the most common english name.
So although we prefer listing it under Zhōngguó, the People's Republic of China is under China, and the Republic of China is under Taiwan,
with apologies to those who prefer it wasn't listed separately.
2. Current names are used for all countries below, so references for "older" countries are recorded under the current name and/or location.
This is also true for countries that subsequently split up, which are listed under all the new countries.
However countries that subsequently merged into other countries are listed separately, and we provide pointers between the two.
3. Foreign sounding names are NOT considered references, without further proof.
4. Songs are NOT considered references unless national anthems or foreign language versions.
5. Foods are NOT considered references, unless only found in that particular country.
Other interesting lists:
This list, of course, includes foreign references. For references within the United States see the corresponding
State of Confusion file; for references within Springfield see the
Springfield City and
Springfield Vacation lists. Other related foreign lists are...
