Illegal Stamps
Any stamp not authorized by an issuing country is illegal, including those purporting to be from territories of larger countries. For a complete explanation and set of definitions around illegal stamps see our Notes page. |
Countries that are the subject of illegal stamps will traditionally issue circulars through the Universal Postal Union. The entries below are linked to the applicable circular where appropriate. Circulars may refer to the problem in general from the applicable country or may refer to the specific illegal stamp issue. |
China Illegal Issues These are legal postal cards from China Post sold by an independent seller with various illegal Simpsons images. |

China Illegal Postal Card
Denomination: .80 Size: 17.0 cm (H) x 12.6 cm (W) Dated: 2009 [the legal postal card] This particular item is an official China Post postal card (with the correct and current pre-printed postage) with copyright Simpsons images printed on them, making this an illegal use of Simpsons image on a legal China Post postal card. While it doesn't fall into the category of illegal stamps we nonetheless wanted to document the existence of this item for the sake of completeness. Generic postal cards unfortunately are often poorly documented and not noted on the China Post, Michaels or Postal Union sites, although I hope to find this in the Scott Catalog some day. Note of course that I know of no postal authority that documents issues other than those currently on sale. Ironically, the printing is apparently done on a high quality colour printer (as in printing photographs) but the images themselves were poorly chosen, and are almost always truncated in odd ways. A "set" consisted of ten postal cards with ten different images. Lastly, this is only included here because it's printed on a postal card (issued with postage by a postal authority) and not just a postcard, of which there are hundreds, including illegal postcards. |
