Illegal Stamps
Any stamp not authorized by an issuing country is illegal, including those purporting to be from territories of larger countries. For a complete explanation and set of definitions around illegal stamps see our Notes page. |
Countries that are the subject of illegal stamps will traditionally issue circulars through the Universal Postal Union. The entries below are linked to the applicable circular where appropriate. Circulars may refer to the problem in general from the applicable country or may refer to the specific illegal stamp issue. |

Denomination: 5.00 [RUB] Size: 40 mm (H) x 31 mm (W) Perforation: 14 (?) Dated: 1999 UPU Circular: 15 on 14 January 2002 Gummed Single stamp, labelled "1999", "Bart Simpson", "TOUVA" [sic], and "5.00". The Universal Postal Union issued circular 15 for the Russian Federation on 14 January 2002, noting that illegal stamps have been issued in the name of 36 different territorial entities of the Russia Federation. Since these entities have issued no legal stamps any stamp found is illegal. |

Republic of Adygea Illegal Cult TV Classics Souvenir Sheet Denomination: 3.00 [RUB] x 12 Sheet Size: 16.4 cm (H) x 16.7 mm (W) Stamp Size: 40 mm (H) x 31 mm (W) Perforation: 14 Dated: 2001 UPU Circular: 15 on 14 January 2002 Gummed Twelve stamps each labelled "2001", "ADIGEY", and "3.00" and each with the name of a television show printed vertically on the left of each stamp in quotes, as follows, ordered left to right then top to bottom; "Streets S.F.", "Married With Children", "Star Trek", "Miami Vice", "Star Trek voyager" [SIC], "South Park", "The Simpsons", "Star Trek Deep Space Nine", "Party of Five", "NYPD Blue" and "Addams Family" [SIC] The Universal Postal Union issued circular 15 for the Russian Federation on 14 January 2002, noting that illegal stamps have been issued in the name of 36 different territorial entities of the Russia Federation. The Universal Postal Union issued circular 15 for the Russian Federation on 14 January 2002, noting that illegal stamps have been issued in the name of 36 different territorial entities of the Russia Federation.
