Bongo Beat: It's D'oh-Official notes that although Bongo Beat reported in Simpsons Comics #36 that Webster's New World Dictionary was going to add D'oh to the dictionary they're not sure they ever had - but nonetheless the Oxford English Dictionary (OED) had as of June 2001. Good to know, since we sent OED the definition and researched its history in response to their request.

Simpsons Comics #62 Simpsons Comics #62  (Sept 2001)
   Thou Shalt Buy This Book!

Inspired by the popular "Simpsons Bible Stories" episode of the Simpsons television series, here are three brand-new high-spirited stories from "The Good Book" Simpsons-style: First, Abraham "The Father of All Nations" Simpson makes a covenant with God, but finds it hard to keep his part of the deal with a son like Homer. Then, Bart becomes the most famous "underachiever" of the Bible, "The Prodigal Son." In the final story, Springfield's "Prince of Piety," Ned Flanders as Noah, tries to save the world by building a huge ark, but he doesn't count on a family of stowaways.

   Hey Kids! Big Golf Issue!

Golf fever has come to Springfield, but Mr. Burns finds the insurgence of amateurs on his beloved putting greens to be an eighteen-hole nightmare. The solution: build his dream course on the only undeveloped property available... the Springfield Nature Preserve! Only three things stand his way: Lisa Simpson, the Li'l Chickadees, and a blood oath that Mr. Burns swore to uphold many years ago.

We have not tracked down a precise date for the comic strip, which was presumably published previously.

Bongo Beat: Off To See The Wizard World! reports on events at Wizard World Chicago 2001 held in Rosemont, IL, where they held a Comic Book Guy contest, with prizes for finding people who look and sound like CBG and who knew classic comic and Simpsons history. Overall winner was Luke Sienkowski (of "Luke Ski" fame), with other prizes going to Terry Fitts, Chad Lundgren, Kevin Smith and Kevin Schwobel.

This Bongo Beat was also published in Futurama Comics #6.

Bongo Beat first discusses unofficial Simpson books "The Simpsons and Philosophy: The D'oh! of Homer", edited by William Irwin (found on our book list here), and "The Gospel According to the Simpsons", by Mark I. Pinsky (found on our book list here). It then discusses the talking Krusty the Clown doll, based directly on the "Clown Without Pity" segment from the Treehouse of Horror III episode [9F04] as well as the Playmates Kang and Kodos spaceship, the Simpsons family Christmas set, and the Diamond Comics Radioactive Man and Fallout Boy environment. Lastly they plug the Inkworks Simpson Mania! cards.

The identical Bongo Beat appeared in Bart Simpson #6

What do a packet of seeds, a credit card bill, and a "turn of the century" faire have in common? It's either Lisa's plan to beautify Springfield, Bart bringing the Simpsons to the brink of bankruptcy, or Mr. Burns' hayfever. Or maybe it's all of the above.

Simpsons Comics #68 Back Cover Adventure Comics #247

This cover for Simpsons Comics #68 takes its cue from Adventure Comics #247 from April 1958. We particularly like Apu wearing a red costume with yellow trim and a single bolt, mirroring Lightning Boy's costume with two bolts.
