There are few things in the world that have a closer relationship than Homer and his sofa. So many memories, so many televised sporting events, so many pork rinds, such a big impression left in the cushions. After years of shared comfort food and the residual crumbs from said comfort food in the sofa's crevices, a man and his sofa are not soon parted; especially when said man is determined to spend a whole year... on said sofa!

Slight change in cover design moves Bongo logo from top left to bottom right and moves issues number from top left to top right. Over the next few years the issue number would often migrate back to the top left and the Bongo logo will be placed where most convenient for the cover design.

Simpsons Comics #102 Donald Duck #159

Kudos to contributor Charles T. Smith, who identified the original source of this cover, Donald Duck #159 from August 1947, drawn by Carl Buettner. The original story, Ghost in the Grotto, retitled on the Simpsons cover to "The Battle for the Barks Billions!", was written and drawn by Disney artist Carl Barks. Note the precise positioning of all the parallel elements, from the identical lamp on the lower left, the location of the coins and the design of the chest. Yet another Carl Barks homage appears with the cover of Free Comic Book Day 2011.
