Below is a list of omissions, typos and errors in the book
“Simpsons World,” published by It Books (Harper Collins Publishers) in October of 2010. The intention is to provide a simple reference to factual errors within rather than demote this otherwise amazing guide to the series!

All errors listed below are emboldened for easy page-skimming.

We've only just started this list and welcome contributions! While we can't predict future editions and publications, most errors previously submitted were then repeatedly corrected in subsequent editions of the original volumes or in Simpsons World. (Please check out our Notes section for more on this!) If you know of any mistakes not listed here, please point them out in an e-mail. Please include the page number(s) containing the error! We gladly note all contributors (if so desired) at the end of this document.

CREDITING ERRORS

The "Who Does What Voice" appendix provides a wonderful list of the roles filled by the regular voice actors on The Simpsons but misses some infrequent regulars and omits many of the speaking roles. We know there are many others missing from the book and from the list that follows.

Although the regular voice actors have their roles detailed in wonderful detail and all other Guest Stars have all their shows listed in the "Celebrity Guest Stars" appendix Phil Hartman's entry merely says "Troy McClure, Lionel Hutz", lacking both the details of the shows and the roles he played; many of the episode descriptions include his other roles but there's no indication of his roles as Announcer, Mandy Patinkin and Security Guard in Selma's Choice (9F11) and as Bill Clinton in Treehouse of Horror VII (4F02)  (These details were also omitted from "A Complete Guide to Our Favorite Family")

In the Celebrity Guest Stars section under Hooks, Jan (Manjula) they failed to include episodes: - I'm With Cupid (AABF11) - Season 10, - Eight Misbehavin' (BABF03) - Season 11, and - Take My Wife, Sleaze (BABF05) - Season 11.

In the Celebrity Guest Stars section under Stack Robert they incorrectly credited him as a guest star on episode The Fat and the Furriest (EABF15) and listed the season for that episode as TBD instead of Season 15.

EPISODE PAGES

p.74

The Stuff You May Have Missed says "The devil's desktop is equipped with a Windows-based program. It should be listed as a windows-based program (not capitalized) since the animators drew a Macintosh, although I'm sure MG would have preferred to see Windows in this instance.  (This error was carried forward from "A Complete Guide to Our Favorite Family")

p.79	The "Episode Song List" (7F12) neglects to mention "The Streak", by Ray Stevens played at Marge and Homer's prom. (This was carried forward from "A Complete Guide to Our Favorite Family")

p.181

In the "The Stuff You May Have Missed" (9F10) it indicates that Ms. Mellon attended the Town Hall meeting. In the "Who Does What Voice" appendix entry for Marcia Wallace and in the subtitles for episode 7G02 they spell that character's name Ms. Melon.

p.199

The sidebar of Tattoo Annie has her image reversed; evident by the tattoos on her arms. (This was carried forward from "A Complete Guide to Our Favorite Family"). They provide another image of her on the same page nicely illustrating this.

p.200

Under “The Stuff You May Have Missed” (9F19) they indicate that “Gabbo's line, 'That ought to hold the little S.O.B.'s,' spoken after the camera has been turned off”, “is taken from a 1950s kiddie show in which the host asked, 'Are we on the air?' and then said, 'That ought to hold the little S.O.B.s for another week.'”. They don't appear to realize that this is an urban legend.  (This was carried forward from "A Complete Guide to Our Favorite Family") Of course, there are many instances of public people saying things they regret when they didn't realize a microphone was still broadcasting or recording their words.

The sidebar bio for Future Burns has "Seen in: The year 10,000 A.D., ..." when the actual caption seen in the episode reads 1,000,000 A.D.". This seemingly obvious error was carried forward from "A Complete Guide to Our Favorite Family" but was not noted until it was reprinted in Simpsons World.

p.213

The second act of "Treehouse of Horror IV" (1F04) is titled "Terror at 5 1/2 Feet" not "Nightmare at 5 1/2 Feet". This error no doubt occurred because this episode parodies the Twilight Zone episode "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet". (This error was carried forward from "A Complete Guide to Our Favorite Family"). Of course, perhaps that may have been the original error, and hence their attempt at correcting it now, or perhaps clarifying what was intended.

The sidebar of Colonel Leslie "Hap" Hapablap has his image reversed; evident by the stripes above the wrong pocket. (This error was carried forward from "A Complete Guide to Our Favorite Family").

In the "TV Moment" box it indicates that David Hyde Pierce plays Miles on "Frasier"; it should be Niles.

p.770

In the synopsis for Sleeping With The Enemy it states that "..the only attendees at Bart's party are Homer, Patty, Selma, Grampa, Maggie, Martin Prince, Ralph Wiggum and Milhouse (via speakerphone)." They fail to mention that Grandma (Jackie) Bouvier was also a guest at the party!

FIRST CHURCH OF SPRINGFIELD MARQUEES

p.1044

In the First Church of Springfield Marquees many of the early episodes had marquees with the topics in quotes (unusual but not impossible for an actual marquee); that's missing from all the quotes that should have them. We don't mark every occurrence here, but we do document them correctly within our Simpsons Religion file. Some of the entries in the book have the preface such as "Today's Topic:" (or something similar) that appears in the episode but some are missing that component; that omission is documented below.

In the First Church of Springfield Marquees the entry "Private Wedding, Please Worship Elsewhere" should not have a comma.

p.1045

In the First Church of Springfield Marquees the entry for episode [AABF14] is missing; it should include Today's Topic: Christ Dyed Eggs For Your Sins.

In the First Church of Springfield Marquees the entry "Jesus Hates You" is missing the preface, the entire quote being Today's Topic: Jesus Hates You   (directed at Abe Simpson for losing a chance at a football franchise for Springfield)

In the First Church of Springfield Marquees the entry "Church Council Meeting Topic: Religion" is missing the preface, the entire quote being Today: Church Council Meeting Topic: Religion.

In the First Church of Springfield Marquees the entry "Heck House - Scaredy Cats Not Wanted" is not on the marquee; Heck House is a large neon sign on the roof of the church, and the marquee initially displays a skull and crossbones and then switches to "Scaredy Cats Not Wanted".

ITCHY & SCRATCHY FILMOGRAPHY

In the Itchy & Scratchy Filmography the cartoon "100 Yard Gash" has an incorrectly inserted hyphen and is noted as "100-Yard Gash". (This error was carried forward from "A Complete Guide to Our Favorite Family", no doubt because we didn't document this error until after "Simpsons World" was published.)

In the Itchy & Scratchy Filmography the cartoon "Kitty-Kitty Bang-Bang" is incorrectly noted without hyphens as "Kitty Kitty Bang Bang". (This error was carried forward from "A Complete Guide to Our Favorite Family", no doubt because we didn't document this error until after "Simpsons World" was published.)

In the Itchy & Scratchy Filmography the cartoon "Dazed and Contused" is incorrectly spelled as "Dazed and Confused" (changing contused to confused) missing part of the original pun. (This error was carried forward from "A Complete Guide to Our Favorite Family", no doubt because we didn't document this error until after "Simpsons World" was published.)

In the Itchy & Scratchy Filmography under "Burning Down the Mouse" we find the following; "Lisa remarks, 'My purpose in life is to witness this moment'". This line was voiced by Bart, not Lisa.  (This error was carried forward from "A Complete Guide to Our Favorite Family")

In the Itchy & Scratchy Filmography the film titled "Aaahhh! Wilderness!" is incorrectly titled Ahhhh! Wilderness" using one "a" and four letters "h" instead of three each. (This error was carried forward from "A Complete Guide to Our Favorite Family", no doubt because we didn't document this error until after "Simpsons World" was published.)

Perfectly understandable why they would want to correct this, but alas, since they're documenting the original broadcast, the Itchy & Scratchy Filmography entry titled "A Briss Before Dying" cannot be "corrected" to A Bris Before Dying using one "s" instead of two.

ADDITIONAL OBSERVATIONS

p.168

The character profile on the episode page "Itchy & Scratchy: The Movie" in the original book was titled "1920's Itchy & Scratchy", but in Simpsons World it's named just "Itchy & Scratchy". On page 257 we see a profile for the "current" characters titled Itchy and Scratchy.

p.213

Under The Stuff You May Have Missed for 1F04 "Terror at 5 1/2 Feet" it says "Uter is not mentioned by name; rather, he's referred to as 'that foreign exchange student'". Uter is shortly thereafter mentioned by name; Bart says "Well, now that we're friends, Uter, how about loosening these straps, huh?"

The sidebar for Don Brodka was reversed, as evidenced by the "Security" patch on the wrong side of his shirt and his walkie-talkie on the wrong side. Nonetheless, one can overlook this if you consider that a "Security" badge or sticker could be on the either side and a walkie talkie could obviously be on either side. The absence of the tattoo on his right arm in the image in fact can theoretically demonstrate that the image is not reversed.

Paul McGuinness (as himself, U2 manager) not credited (5F09). The individual band members are listed under the episode and U2 is listed under the "Celebrity Guest Stars" appendix.

p.478

The original broadcast had “"butt.com" is not my E-mail address” rather than “"butt.butt" is not my E-mail address” (5F19). The second form appeared in subsequent showings inasmuch as butt.com is an unfortunate choice as it then appeared as an actual web site address. In addition the web site address had quotation marks during the broadcast that are missing from the book. We recognize, of course, that just as the unfortunate choice of URL was eliminated from the show they choose to eliminate it from the book.

The Shriners appear in cars driving from left to right with Crazy Old Man in front and Grampa in the rear. That's the reverse of the order in the episode (Grampa in front and Crazy Old Man in rear). An intentionally incorrect placement to allow the cars to read "APU LOVES MANJULA" from left to right could have been easily 'solved' by having the cars driving from right to left. (AABF11). (This was also observed in The Simpsons Forever!)

PRINTING VARIATIONS

Thus far in the United States there's just the first printing (and hence no variations) of the first edition. Anyone know of a second printing yet?

FOREIGN EDITIONS

UK Edition

The first UK printing, published in 2010, naturally included the same errors as the original US printing. No foreign language editions have been released or announced. Yet.

Simpsons World encompasses 20 seasons, and incorporates, corrects and vastly expands upon the four prior volumes which were as follows;

NOTES

A large number of errors that we had pointed out in our lists Errors in the Complete Guide and Errors in The Simpsons Forever! are now corrected in this volume and we would like to express our profound appreciation again to Bongo and Matt Groening for taking the time and effort to correct them. Many other shows have published guides, but I know of none as detailed as the guides to our favorite family. More significantly I know of no other guide that has published revisions, not to mention multiple revisions; the pages from the original guide are now in their sixth revision, counting the four softcover and one hardcover volume of The Complete Guide to Our Favorite Family and now Simpsons World. Bongo and Matt Groening are truly working to meet the needs of their fans, who are best described in the index of Simpsons World: "For the obsessive fan, compulsive rooter or diligent scholar".

Naturally there are other minor "errors" that were carried forward from prior volumes. We respect the right of the publisher to choose what they want to correct. and we nonetheless choose to document every detail of what was not "corrected" from prior editions. We also recognize that certain "errors" may be subjective, and have moved items that may be more accurately described as artistic license into a Observations section of this document. More importantly, there could actually be an instance when *we're* mistaken, and we'll gladly point that out too! That was in fact the case with our original errors list, and hence the reason it now includes a Retractions section.

The size of Simpsons World in our mind increases the difficultly of republishing this entire volume in a new edition to incorporate these corrections, but that will depend no doubt on how well it sells going forward and the appearance of subsequent volumes. As thrilled as we would be to see these corrections incorporated, a newer edition means I'll be forced to buy another copy. Worse still when they release foreign language editions again, the cost of postage will be higher than the cost of the volume!

We look forward to the publication of Simpsons World II in 2030 incorporating Seasons 21 - 40, the 50th Anniversary Commemorative box set of the first two volumes with special supplement in 2039, Simpsons World III in 2050 incorporating Seasons 41 - 60, and the 100th Anniversary multi-volume set Simpsons Universe in 2089, also available in a special antique "paper" version, harkening back to the days when books were still available in "hardcopy".
