  Look Out! Here Comes...

After getting no respect from his son Homer, Abe Simpson falls in with the Flanders clan who are more than happy to show him all the honor he deserves and then some. When the Simpsons begin to feel the grandfatherly vacuum in their household, they look for a fitting substitute, only to find an all-too-willing Mr. Burns waiting in the wings. But Mr. Burns has more on his mind than giving out half dollars and plastic-wrapped candies to his new 'grandchildren.' Honor thy Simpsons this April!

Cover Text:   Tattoo on Grampa's arm: "Hellfish"

The last page above includes four faux letters asking Abe Simpson about... the war. Of greater interest however is the theoretical authors of those letters;

R. Heath - Russ Heath, DC Comics war stories artist and Will Eisner Hall of Fame member who ironically has achieved fame with his advertisements for Roman and Revolutionary War soldiers that appeared on the back of hundreds of comics and was appropriately parodied on the back cover of Radioactive Man #216 with 997 pc. Vietnam War Fun Set.

J. Kubert - Joe Kubert, DC Comics artist and Will Eisner Hall of Fame member best known for his work on Sgt. Rock and Hawkman.

R. Kanigher - Robert Kanigher, DC Comics artist who created Sgt. Rock, but we prefer to remember his work on Wonder Woman.

J. Severin - John Severin, EC Comics artist known for his work on the war comics Two-Fisted Tales and Frontline Combat.

Simpsons Comics #144 Rosie the Riviter

This issue, filled with World War II references, appropriately carries the parody on the cover. The heading "Another Riveting Issue" appears above a cover obviously based on J. Howard Miller's "We Can Do It!" image of Rosie the Riveter, a World War II poster supporting the American woman who worked in factories replacing the men who went off to war.

Simpsons Comics #145 Superman #199 Simpsons Comics #146

The cover of Simpsons Comics #145 with the heading "Who Is The Fattest Man Alive?" changes a single letter and abandons it's usual font to match this homage to Superman #199 from August 1967, the first in the series on the race between Superman and Flash. The Simpsons cover the following month then continued the parody, with Marge and Thugly Betty matching the original cover better than Homer and Comic Book Guy.

Simpsons Comics #148 Homer Mermaid Little Mermaid

This cover image had an odd familiarity about it, with the subtitle of the first story "Little Mermaid" pointing to the source of the image, Disney's Little Mermaid. Note how the shape of the rock and wave are mirrored from the original.
