---|What is this file?

This list keeps track of the different blackboard opening sequences used in
    syndicated episodes.

---|What is a syndicated episode?

After a show has acquired enough episodes to run 5 days a week, the
production company may choose to sell the shows on a market-by-market basis
to the highest bidder. That station has the right to air each episode a
specified number of times. To maximize commercial airing, the episodes are
    often are cut and edited.

---|Where are the syndicated couch openings?

Check the Couch Openings page for information on which couch openings are
    used in syndication.

---|Where are the regular blackboard openings?

Check the Blackboard Openings page for a list of blackboard openings
    used in regular episodes.

---|Interesting syndication information was provided to me by Brian Petersen:

> The only time when there should be differences noticeable in syndication is
> where the distributor itself has changed the cuts and issued new tapes or
> satellite feeds to stations. (Usually when, for some reason, contracts get
> re-written stipulating more or less commercial time per episode.) This
> rarely happens, but it has already happened once to The Simpsons -- toward
> the start of its life in domestic syndication. The distributor began
> cutting episodes ahead of the show's September 19 1994 debut in anticipation
> of that premiere date. But starting in late 1994 for some reason, a
> contract change occurred that required all the episodes to be re-cut. So
> over the next couple years, the distributor had to slowly go through the
> motions of re-editing all episodes they had already done. Thus anyone with
> recordings of episodes made before those episodes were re-edited has a
> different version than what actually airs today. E.g., 8F06 first aired on
> Oct. 25 1994, but wasn't re-cut until Dec. 1 1994. 7F14 was re-edited on
> Mar. 2 1995, yet aired three times before that date, on May 9 1995, Sep. 20
> 1995, and Jan. 19 1996. Etc., etc. I don't even know what changes were
> made -- all I know is that there *were* changes. It could have been as
> simple as changing the amount of time-compression. Or maybe it could have
> been that, and different (or additional) cuts. For all that matters,
> though, all stations today should be airing the new versions. Those have
> the phrase "revised barter" (or "barter revised") on their slates as seen in
> the satellite feeds.
