The community now had ample time to grow, with Fox keeping fairly quit
and leaving our websites alone for
the most part.
The Simpsons Odyssey returned as a megasite, merged with Planet Hype to become
Viva Los Simpsons. More sites entered the spotlight, such as Springfield Weekly,
D'oh'eth, New Springfield, Simpson Crazy, and The Simpsons: An Unofficial Site,
while Destination: Springfield returned from an absence to become one of the
more popular sites. Older sites such as Last Exit To Springfield, Picks' Tribute
To The Simpsons, and Little Miss Springfield made modifications
to keep visitors watching, and The Simpsons Folder made it's way back on the
net and off again. The Simpsons Sourcebook eventually disappeared from the net
due to lack of interest on the owners' part.
The Simpsons Archive's many years worth of work paid off in mid-2003, when series creator Matt Groening revealled what he likes to do in his free time, reminding us that the opinions of Fox didn't necessarily reflect that of the series creators. An Argentenian newspaper quoted Matt as saying:
"Sometimes we have to look at fan sites to remember [what we have done before]: one of the best is www.snpp.com [since renamed www.simpsonsarchive.com].
I have no idea what those initials mean, but it has a lot of stuff. Though for them, every episode is the worst ever."
The site celebrated
its tenth anniversary in March 2004, being the only Simpsons site to stand the
test
of time as well as Fox.
The only new additions to the Fox hit list the 2003 - 2004 period
were New Springfield and D'oh'eth, the latter merging with established site Simpson
Crazy. Co-owner of the now defunct Viva Los Simpsons developed Springfield
Town Hall which became Behind The Laughter. The Simpsons Gallery finally
came
to
grow into
something
special,
while The Simpsons Folder had a number of modifications after returning one more
time. And with Last Exit To Springfield, Eye On Springfield, Springfield Weekly,
and Destination: Springfield still going strong, the community has developed
into a quieter, laid back system that works for the fans and webmasters alike.
Who knows where this story will take us next.
